Corporate Responsibility

A key strategy for the company is to monitor its impacts upon its working environment, those involved and communities by embracing the four key areas of Corporate Responsibility (CR) - Communities, Environment, Marketplace and People.

The company has many activities that are CR related; such as carbon reduction, employee
development and local community projects. To improve our performance we have devised a series of key indicators that will enable us to monitor and quantify these activities.

This gives us the opportunity to recognise areas for improvement and to communicate them to the business and our client base in a tangible way.

As stated we have four main areas to our strategy, Community, Environment, Marketplace and People.

Communities and People

We recognise that not only is the sustainability of our business critically dependant on meeting our clients’ expectations, but that the value and effectiveness of our
approach to CR is dependant on ensuring the company is aligned with the values and expectations of our clients, regulators and the construction industry.

We actively support the communities in which we work and have close links with schools, colleges and universities. The company is a member of Business in the Community which cements its commitment to continual improvement.

The company actively employs locally where possible and we operate a Modern Apprenticeship scheme for 16-24 year olds.  We also monitor the wellbeing of our employees through staff satisfaction surveys and Occupational Health surveys.

Environmental

The company effectively manages its Environmental impact by a series of robust verified systems. Our carbon management system is independently verified by the CEMARS scheme and waste is monitored by the company EMS system which is ISO 14001 certified

The reduction of waste where possible is a significant objective together with the recycling and the use of recycled materials. The company has calculated its carbon footprint, has set a carbon reduction target and is implementing schemes to meet this target.

Marketplace

Key to achieving our environmental and social key areas, is the monitoring of our economic capabilities.

We recognise that to be a successful and sustainable business we need to generate profits but in such a way that we consider and manage our impacts on the
environment and the people we come into contact with.
