Network Rail – London North West, civil maintenance framework
Overview: This was a two year framework agreement in partnership with Network Rail, to manage and implement the maintenance and repair of stations, bridges, culverts, embankments, drains and other structures throughout North West London. The scope of work included analysing options, developing single solutions to target cost, and detailed design plus construction of the works for a portfolio of structures.
Challenges: The route had a significant number of structures with an age profile ranging between 50 and 180 years old. Some of these were the original structures from when the railway first opened, and were below current performance and safety levels. In addition, access and geographical spread required the development of specific construction teams, based in project or hub offices which were set up to undertake individual projects or a series of similar projects. Most of the work was executed on or near the line, and so was subject to Network Rail operational constraints.
Key achievements and innovations: Working collaboratively with Network Rail, the deterioration of route structures was arrested and asset performance was returned to a level consistent with the LNW safety and performance targets. This included the implementation of a preventative maintenance regime, in conjunction with pre-planned intrusive examinations.
