Utility diversions, Canary Wharf, London, 2015
Description: Drainage, sewer, multi-utility, and irrigation diversions to enable works on the Newfoundland development, plus cable installation and removal of existing services.
Challenges: A complex contract in terms of the number and type of assets to remove, protect or divert. 1,050mm diameter storm sewer and 500mm diameter foul sewer (auger bore) and manhole construction. Close liaison and coordination with all utility providers involved.
Key achievements and innovations: Use of drive shafts and reception pits as manholes, instead of constructing new manholes with a smaller diameter. Minimal disruption with advanced traffic and pedestrian management.
Location: Canary Wharf, London
