UK Power Network Energy Centre – completion of two 132kV circuits
Description: This project involved the completion of two 132kV circuits to supply a new UKPN energy centre in central London. The installation of the circuits involved laying 1.2km of 132kV cable between the existing sub-station on Moreton Street to a new sub-station in Victoria Street. In addition to these electric cables a number of fibre optic and telephone cables were also installed.
Challenges: The project location in the heart of central London provided many logistical and engineering challenges, as the route of the network passed through key areas of London including; Westminster Cathedral, The House of Commons, Scotland Yard and Victoria Street. A comprehensive plan was produced in order to reduce disruption and ensure that utility assets were avoided in the most congested and challenging excavation conditions.
Awards: This scheme was recognised by the Considerate Constructors Accreditation scheme and a ‘Performance Beyond Compliance’ Certificate was awarded
