Energy

Clancy has secured a two year extension to its long-term framework to deliver cable engineering services with Northern Powergrid, the company responsible for the electricity distribution network that powers the lives of 8 million people across 3.9 million homes and businesses in the North East, Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire.

Clancy’s contract, which covers Northern Powergrid’s North East licence area, has a value of approximately £13 million per annum. It will see the utilities specialist manage planned and reactive replacement work for underground mains, services and plant across the region. A significant element of customer connections and supply alterations are also covered within the framework.

The extended partnership builds on an eight-year relationship between Clancy and Northern Powergrid to help keep the lights on for the network operator’s customers against the backdrop of a rapidly changing sector. The framework will run until 2022, with an option for a further two-year extension.

Together Clancy and Northern Powergrid will continue to focus on operational advancements in the build up to OFGEM’s new Electricity Distribution regulatory period – ED2 – which starts in 2023, with an emphasis on delivering excellent customer experience, building network resilience and increasing productivity through innovation.

Over the course of the existing framework Clancy and Northern Powergrid have demonstrated a strong commitment to health and safety, delivering 1,000 days without a lost time incident and maintaining RIDDOR-free status for the duration for the contract. On customer service, the framework achieved a score of 98.1 per cent against OFGEM’s Broad Measure of Customer Services (BMCS) metric for property services over the course of 2019.

Lee Cuthbert, Associate Director at Clancy, said: “The relationship between Clancy and Northern Powergrid has been strengthened by a culture of collaboration and open communication. The challenges of the last few months, where our teams have worked tirelessly to keep communities connected throughout the COVID-19 pandemic has been testament to this partnership.

“With this extension we will continue to focus on exceptional customer service and quality as the industry looks ahead to ED2 – investing in our own team and capability within the region to ensure we are working safely and securely.”

Andy Bilclough, Northern Powergrid’s Director of Field Operations, said: “The extension of our contract with Clancy is part of our commitments to provide a safe and reliable power supply to our customers and that has never been more important than at this current time.

“We work continuously to maintain, protect and inspect our electricity network, so we can keep powering peoples’ lives by delivering multi-million pound investment plans for our customers whilst delivering long-term environmental benefits and supporting economic growth now and in the future.”
