Securing ED1SON Alliance extension with UK Power Networks

Clancy has secured a four-year extension to its partnership with UK Power Networks as part of the ground-breaking ED1SON contracting Alliance.

Working alongside Alliance partners Kier and Morrison Utilities, the extension will see Clancy maintain momentum on UK Power Networks’ ongoing £1 billion capital investment programme across London, the South East and East of England.

Initially launched in 2015, ED1SON was designed to bring together the skills of contractors and consultants within a continuous work programme to ensure greater efficiency and innovation, ultimately delivering value for UK Power Networks’ customers.  The extended Alliance will run until 2024.

The Alliance has established a collaborative supply chain model geared to navigating complex projects while building its overall capability.  A culture of continuous improvement and keen focus on safety has seen the Alliance deliver over a million working hours without a lost time incidence since 2017.

Key capital projects for Clancy and its partners over this period have included major cable upgrades across south London and the delivery of a new substation and 320 metre cable tunnel to support the regeneration of Battersea Power Station.  The achievements of the Battersea project and especially the strength of the contracting team has been recognised by awards from New Civil Engineer and the Institute of Civil Engineers.[1]

Matt Cannon, Chief Executive at Clancy, said the extension from UK Power Networks’ was testament to the success of the Alliance’s model:

“When it was established ED1SON was one of the most forward-looking examples of a collaborative Alliance within the utilities sector and the results across five years have been testament to that vision – delivering record investment in the network, maintaining service for customers and driving up standards in working practices.

“For our own business, this extension will support our pipeline of investment in tools, skills and training for our team.  Together with UK Power Networks and our Alliance partners we look forward to delivering a modern, resilient energy network.”

Nirmal Kotecha, Director of Capital Programme and Procurement at UK Power Networks, said:

“Our job is to keep the lights on across London, the South-East and East of England. Our partnership with Clancy has helped to deliver vital upgrades to the network. We look forward to continuing our work that will supply local communities and businesses well into the future as well as delivering a strong and resilient network.”
