Clancy Traffic Management has been appointed by Barnet Council to its Highways Maintenance Works Framework to deliver traffic safety and management services to support the local authority in maintaining the quality of its carriageways and pathways.
The framework will see Clancy provide traffic management (TM) for planned and reactive works to maintain the local road network across the borough, delivering end-to-end TM services, from scheme design and installation through to decommissioning of works.
Clancy’s associated management system (AMS) allows it to manage and monitor works in real time, automating TM equipment to deliver greater efficiency of resource and allowing fast response to traffic peaks and troughs. This system also monitors the battery life and health of plant, enabling proactive maintenance and reducing the miles travelled by operatives to service equipment, which in turn saves time and carbon.
The AMS system is part of Clancy’s broader investment programme in the latest equipment, which also includes auto-green technology and a fleet of variable messaging signs (VMS). Auto-green technology automatically monitors queue lengths and adjusts the timing of temporary lights to improve traffic flow by up to 24 percent per hour, reducing driver frustration and improving safety. Meanwhile VMS is used to remotely update signage, keeping road users informed of changes in queues, lane merges or speed requirements.
The contract will run for four years with the potential for a further two-year extension. As Barnet Borough Council works to build a thriving local economy, Clancy will maximise opportunities to work with local businesses, with 27 approved suppliers already in the area. The business will also focus on supporting local employment including working with local colleges to offer placements for young people and hiring a number of Barnet’s residents to join Clancy’s directly employed team.
